Sadushi: Justice Reform Has Prevented Political Influence on the Judiciary

Supreme Court Head Sokol Sadushi today that the institution he leads faces no political pressure.

In an interview for Albanian Radio and Television, he stated that avoiding such pressure is the judge’s responsibility. According to him, the current system for appointments, promotions, and disciplinary measures functions independently from politics. This, he said, removes the grounds for outside influence.

From a legal and constitutional standpoint, he considered the issue resolved. However, he noted that personally, how one handles pressure depends on the individual.

Sadushi stressed that magistrates have both the right and the duty to stay away from pressure. Their work requires full independence. He acknowledged that pressure exists, but said every judge has the tools to manage it.

He added that pressure does not influence decision-making, neither for him nor for his colleagues. He invited the public to read Supreme Court rulings and judge for themselves.

Sadushi said the Justice Reform introduced a major change. It allows magistrates to avoid political influence. He admitted that in some areas there may be a perception of pressure. However, he stated that decisions do not reflect it. In his view, it is the decisions themselves that show whether the court has come under political pressure.
