Sanchez: We encourage dialogue between Pristina and Belgrade

In a joint conference with Prime Minister Rama, Prime Minister of Spain, Pedro Sanchewhen asked by journalists about the recognition of the independence of Kosovo. Sanchez said that even good friends have their contradictions, declaring that international law has been violated in the case of Kosovo.
“I think that good friends, such as Albania and Spain, can also have disagreements, because we think that this is a unilateral declaration of independence, we think that international law has been violated, therefore we cannot be in favor of this recognition. We say this with all the respect we have for the Albanian people. We do not share this with Albania, but this does not mean that we are not on your side. We encourage dialogue between Pristina and Belgrade. Even good friends can have their contradictions”, said the Prime Minister of Spain.
On the other hand, Rama reacted by saying that he thinks the opposite, while adding that it is in the right of his counterpart to draw extreme conclusions.
“You are entitled to draw extreme conclusions, I tell you that the opposite is true. The exercise of sovereignty over the entire territory of the state of Kosovo, based on the Agreement agreed between Kosovo and Serbia in Brussels, is not a right, but a duty of the institutions of Kosovo. I support the government of Kosovo and I support the authorities in Kosovo who demand that the agreement be implemented. I have no dilemma about that. I congratulate the Prime Minister of Kosovo for his sense of self-restraint and for listening to the allies who suggested a 30-day postponement, not to change the agreement, but to give him time to clarify and when the agreement comes into force, there will be no problems”, Rama was quoted as saying.
