The National Historical Museum marked today 105 years since the death of Selam Musai (1860–1920), People’s Hero.

He died while defending the national flag during the Vlora War in 1920. That moment made him a symbol of bravery and dedication to the country.

He was born in the village of Salaria, in Tepelena. His family upheld strong patriotic traditions. His house and his mountain shelter became important bases for patriotic fighters, including the groups led by Çerçiz Topulli and Mihal Grameno.

In December 1912, the Provisional Government of Vlora called on citizens to resist the Greek forces. Selam Musai led his fellow villagers to the war front. He was wounded in that battle.

At age 60, he took up arms again. He gathered villagers from Salari and nearby areas. Together, they went to Vlora to fight the Italian garrison in Kota.

After that garrison collapsed, Selam Musai and his fighters moved toward Vlora. They stood ready to face the larger Italian force.

On 11 June 1920, during hand-to-hand combat in Qafa e Koçiut, Selam Musai was killed.
