Shkodër’s Rozafa Castle undergoes restoration and visitor upgrades

Rozafa Castle in Shkodër is undergoing restoration and redevelopment as part of a project to strengthen the tourism and cultural potential of the Shkodër Archaeological Park. Work has started at the lower section of the castle, where workers are building a parking area to address a long-standing issue for visitors.
The parking area will include six spaces for buses, an information point, visitor toilets and a separate area for minibuses, according to Helidon Sokoli, head of the Archaeological Parks at the Shkodër Regional Directorate of Cultural Heritage. Meanwhile, workers are upgrading the historic path leading to the castle and restoring the facade of the castle museum. The work is continuing during the busy tourist season without restricting access to the monument.
The project will also improve access from the western and eastern sides of the castle. It will add wooden railings at panoramic points and new lighting inside the courtyards to improve visitor safety and the site’s appearance. The Albanian Development Fund is financing the investment with more than 1 million euros. More than 160,000 domestic and foreign visitors have visited Rozafa Castle during the first nine months of this year.
