In celebration of the 112th anniversary of Albania’s Independence, the Municipality of Tuz in Montenegro inaugurated a monument dedicated to Albania’s national hero, Gjergj Kastrioti Skanderbeg.
The unveiling ceremony, held in the presence of numerous dignitaries, was marked by reflections on the historical significance of this occasion. Ivan Ivanaj, Deputy Mayor of Tuz, emphasized that the monument’s inauguration on this momentous day underscores the enduring legacy of Skanderbeg for Albanians everywhere.
“On the most sacred day for the Albanian nation, we gather to unveil the monument of our national hero, Gjergj Kastrioti Skanderbeg—a symbol of resistance, unity, and national identity. This monument is not merely a bronze artistic creation but a perpetual reminder of the values embodied by our hero, values we must nurture and keep alive,” Ivanaj declared during the ceremony.
Ivanaj acknowledged the challenges faced in bringing the project to fruition. “The journey to this point was not easy. This long-awaited and often contested project encountered numerous obstacles and challenges. But we knew it was the right thing to do—a necessary homage to the figure who symbolizes our freedom and national pride. Today, more than ever, we affirm that when Albanians unite, everything is possible,” he remarked.
The Deputy Mayor also credited the Albanian Forum and the Albanian diaspora for their support in realizing this mission, highlighting that the monument stands as a symbol of unity for Albanians worldwide.
