Solemn Academy to Mark “Mother Teresa Days” in Kosova

In celebration of Saint Mother Teresa’s birthday, the Diocese of Prizren-Pristina, in collaboration with the Institute of Spiritual and Cultural Heritage of Albanians-Skopje, is hosting the “Mother Teresa Days” solemn academy. The event begins today and continues through September 5.

Born 114 years ago in Skopje as Anjezë Gonxhe Bojaxhiu, later known as Saint Mother Teresa, she remains one of the most prominent Albanian profiles globally. Mother Teresa received numerous accolades, including the Ramon Magsaysay Peace Prize in 1962 and the Nobel Peace Prize in 1979. She was beatified on October 19, 2003, and canonized as a saint on September 4, 2016, following the recognition of a second miracle by Pope Francis.

In honor of her birthday, the Catholic Diocese of Kosova is organizing a solemn academy at the Cathedral named after her. Additionally, the “Shqiptaria Organization” (Albanianess Organization)  and “Artists for Artists” associations will host an exhibition celebrating her legacy at Mother Teresa Square in Prishtina from 12:00 PM to 6:00 PM.

The Institute of Spiritual and Cultural Heritage of Albanians-Skopje will also hold the fourth edition of “Gonxhe Days,” marking the 114th anniversary of Mother Teresa’s birth and the 27th anniversary of her passing. This event takes place at Mother Teresa Square in Prishtina at 1:00 PM.

The solemn academy, which inaugurates the “Mother Teresa Days,” will be held at the Bogdani Polis Center in Prishtina, starting at 7:00 PM.
