Special Court confirms receipt of Kosovo Assembly resolution

Kosovo Assembly Chair Albulena Haxhiu delivered a letter today to deputies. The letter came from Ekaterina Trendafilova, head of the Special Chambers in The Hague.
Trendafilova confirmed that the Special Chambers accepted Resolution No. 10-R-001. The Assembly of Kosovo had approved it on February 12, 2026.
The letter states that the Special Court respects international standards. It noted that the legal framework follows fair trial rules and strong judicial independence guarantees.
“All individuals appearing before the Special Chambers—suspects, accused, or victims—can use legal remedies provided under this framework,” the letter said. It also allows cases to be referred to the Special Chamber of the Constitutional Court, the final authority for interpreting Kosovo’s Constitution.
Trendafilova added that criminal panels consistently follow the Constitution and European Court of Human Rights jurisprudence. This ensures full compliance with international human rights principles.
She concluded by congratulating Haxhiu on her election as Assembly Chair and wished her success in fulfilling her new mandate.
