The 24th anniversary of “Exodus ’99” is commemorated

Every mid-April, many citizens of Kosova return to Kukës, to commemorate the biblical exodus of 99, where they found hospitality, generosity and an open heart for them.

Under a special symbols, hundreds of citizens from Kosova on the 24th anniversary of “Exodus 99” have crossed the Kosova-Albania border to get to Kukës.

The Ambassador of Albania in Kosova, Qemal Minxhozi described Kukës as the embodiment of Albanian hospitality.

Putting in action Operation Horse Shoe, in March and April 1999, the Serbian army undertook a widespread wave of ethnic cleansing of the Albanian population in Kosova, forcibly removing over 1 million residents from their homes. It was Kukës the center of Albania’s hospitability, making a second home for them, where over 700 thousand people took shelter in houses, institutional buildings and in the camps that were set up in Kukës and throughout the country, until June 13, 1999 when Kosova was liberated.
