The agreement with Slovakia on the elimination of double taxation approved

Under the leadership of Chairperson Mimi Kodheli, the Committee for Foreign Policy convened today.

During the session, the Committee reviewed the Draft Law regarding the ratification of the agreement between the Council of Ministers of the Republic of Albania and the Government of the Republic of Slovakia. This agreement will eliminate double taxation concerning income taxes and to prevent and combat tax evasion.

The Committee invited the following individuals to present the draft law: Deputy Minister of Finance and Economy, Vasilika Vjero; Zarina Taja, Director of the Directorate of Policies and Fiscal Harmonization of Legislation for Direct Taxes and International Taxation; and Dorina Toro, Sector Manager of the Directorate of Fiscal Policies and Harmonization of Legislation on Direct Taxes and International Taxation.

During her speech to the committee, Deputy Minister Vjero emphasized that the draft is designed to promote and ensure economic development between the two countries.

In line with the EU’s recommendations, we are poised to initiate negotiations with other countries and propose similar agreements. The objective is to enhance freedom of movement and facilitate business activities. The agreement will establish a robust legal framework for the treatment of individuals and businesses,” remarked Vjero.

The rapporteur for the case, Etilda Gjonaj, emphasized that ‘a portion of the EU’s recommendations pertains to agreements forged between nations. These agreements offer mutual benefits to the citizens of both countries. I would encourage the ministry to continue signing and ratifying such agreements between states.’

Following questions and discussions section, the committee gave its preliminary approval to the draft law, considering each article individually and endorsing it in its entirety.
