On September 25, 1901, Father Pjetër Meshkalla was born, becoming one of the brightest minds within the Albanian Catholic clergy. His early education took place in his hometown of Shkodër, followed by theological studies in Linz (Austria), Goricë (Slovenia), and at the Faculty of Philosophy in Naples.

He taught several generations of students at the Papal Seminary in Shkodër, covering subjects such as language, Albanian literature, and philosophy. He also played a pivotal role in establishing the “Don Bosco” and “Saint Peter” circles, which became significant centers for youth education during that time.

His prominent intellectual activity did not spare him from being listed among the “enemies of the people.” In 1947, he was sentenced to 15 years in prison, and in 1967, he received an additional 10-year sentence. By 1978, he was interned in Vlorë. This distinguished symbol of martyrdom passed away on July 28, 1988. The Jesuits, to whom he belonged, have honored his legacy by naming a high school in Shkodër after him, which continues the tradition of the renowned Saverian College.
