The contract for the National Theater is signed, the first phase will cost around 19 million Euro

As the field works for the construction of the new National Theater have started, a day ago in the system of the Public Procurement Agency, the conclusion of the contract for the construction – the first phase was also announced.
Likewise, on the same day, the conclusion of the contract for the supervision of the construction of the Theater was also published.
Specifically, according to the contract signature form published on the APP website by the Municipality of Tirana, the company AGI-Kons, which is also the winner of the competition, will receive about 19 million Euro. The amount includes the total of the contract where the limit fund is over 1.8 billion ALL and the value added tax has been added, reaching 2.2 billion ALL, according to Monitor magazine.
On the other hand, the contract with the object “Supervision of the works for the object “Tirana Theater Building – Phase 1” was won by the INFRATECH company and the announcement of the conclusion of the contract on Thursday of this week indicated that the total value including VAT is 20 million ALL or over 173 thousand Euro.
On Wednesday of this week, the official start of the works for the new National Theater was announced, one of the projects that has had even more debate and clashes over the years.
On the ground, the beginning of the works was accompanied by the presence of the police, trying to avoid possible clashes, which were not absent earlier during the discussion phases of the project and the actual demolition of the old theater.
The National Theater was demolished in May 2020 after numerous clashes and opposition from civil society. The National Council of the Territory approved the permission for the theater in the summer of last year, as its total cost is calculated at 30 million Euro.
The first project that came out to the public envisioned the construction of several towers together with the Theater, while later the government withdrew saying that this Theater would be built with public money and there would be no multi-story buildings with it.
New Theater Project
The project consists in the construction of a new theater in Tirana with about 8,000 m2 above ground and 5,000 m2 underground on 3 levels.
“Being a simple prism, compressed in its center, the building simultaneously creates public squares facing east and west, as well as a shaded space, protected from the sun, from which visitors enter the building.
The slope of the roof creates another kind of space that is given a dramatic backdrop by the city itself. Not only the “envelope” of the building is defined for performances, but also the auditorium and the black box, which are “traditional” spaces, become active participants through the relationship they have with the facade and the way they interact with the urban context” says the architectural project of the Theater new.
