The debate on Kosova membership in the Council of Europe is on April 18

The Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe published the official agenda for the spring session. It includes the discussion on Kosova membership. According to this agenda, the debate will be held on April 18, from 10:00 to 12:30, and the report will be presented by the rapporteur for Kosova, Dora Baokyannis, Azdeh Rojhan from Sweden and Beatrice Fresco-Rolfo from Monaco.
After the debate, a vote is expected and if Kosova successfully passes this stage. The vote that is expected to take place in May at the Council of Ministers of the Council of Europe will determine whether the country will join the Council of Europe.
The Committee for Politics and Democracy of the Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe recommended Kosova membership in the Council of Europe without any additional preconditions on March 27.
Bakoyannis’ opinion requires the removal of the footnote from the name of Kosova, which has been used since 2008 in every report and communication on and with Kosova. Also, it is recommended that Kosova be invited as a state, according to Article 4 of the Statute of the Council of Europe, and not as a country, according to Article 5.
Kosova membership in the Council of Europe will have an extraordinary impact on the promotion and protection of the rights of all communities of the country.
