The joint exercise “Joint Ionian Livex 2023″concludes successfully

The Minister of Defense, Niko Peleshi, announced that the joint exercise “Joint Ionian Livex 2023” between the Albanian and Greek Naval Forces, which took place in the waters of the Ionian Sea, has been successfully completed.

In a social media post, Peleshi stated that the exercise, focused on enhancing the interaction in naval operations, marks a continuation of efforts to strengthen ties and promote regional cooperation and mutual trust between the Naval Forces of our two countries, both with access to the Ionian Sea.

In this joint exercise, two ships from the Albanian Navy participated: the Iliria P-131 and Oriku P-132, along with the Greek Navy’s Troupakis P-23.

During the three days at sea, the ships conducted training exercises focused on SAR (Search and Rescue) operations, law enforcement procedures, sea detention protocols, various navigation formations, supply at sea, and the close protection of ships against asymmetric attacks.

The exercise was conducted in accordance with NATO’s standard procedures for naval operations.

During the closing ceremony held in the port of Saranda, the exercise was closely monitored at sea by Rear Admiral Adnand Agastra, the Commander of the Naval Force, and Commodore Vasileios Gyparis, representing the Greek Naval Force.

Local authorities from the city of Saranda also participated in the ceremony.

The activity plays a crucial role in enhancing maritime security, promoting interoperability between the two countries, and contributing to stability in the region.
