The Prime Minister of Bulgaria welcomes Gjinushi: The Balkans has the potential to become a leader in science and technology

During the three-day official visit to Sofia, the delegation from the Academy of Sciences of Albania, led by its president, Academician Skënder Gjinushi, met with the Prime Minister of Bulgaria, Nikolai Denkov.

According to the Academy of Sciences’ announcement, the meeting between Prime Minister Nikolai Denkov and the president of the Academy of Sciences of Albania, Academician Shkënder Gjinushi, focused on the benefits of enhancing scientific cooperation between Bulgaria and Albania.

During the meeting, Prime Minister Denkov welcomed the agreement on scientific cooperation between the Bulgarian Academy of Sciences (BAS) and the Academy of Sciences of Albania, which was signed on October 30, 2023. The Chairman of BAS, Academician Julian Revalski, also participated in the meeting.

The document allows researchers to participate in joint research projects, seminars, symposia, round tables, international conferences, and other scientific activities. It also facilitates the exchange of researchers and information related to research, the implementation of new research methods, the delivery of lectures, and the creation of new scientific connections to support the development of collaborative projects.

Prime Minister Nikolay Denkov believes that the Balkans have the potential to lead in the fields of science and technology. To achieve this, institutions should take a proactive role, and Balkan countries must collaborate while adopting the best global practices. It is crucial to foster a balanced approach to both fundamental and applied scientific research, especially concerning innovation and business.

Meeting participants agreed that more young people, including those from other countries, should be involved in scientific institutions.
