The Times: Albania’s Artistic Leader, Edi Rama, Surprises Gallery with Dreamlike Drawings

Tirana, October 14 — The British newspaper The Times featured Prime Minister Edi Rama, noting his international reputation for charismatic and unconventional leadership. It highlighted his artistic career, from professional basketball to politics, and said his work has attracted attention even from world leaders.
The article reported that Berlin’s Société gallery signed Rama to promote his art, including appearances at Frieze London, Art Basel Paris, and a solo exhibition in Berlin next year. Supporters see this as recognition of his role in modernizing Albanian art, while critics consider it a way to manage his public image amid controversies.
It recalled that Rama studied at the Academy of Arts in Tirana, taught there, and worked in Paris, with exhibitions at the Pompidou Center and in the United States. Critics described his style as neo-expressionist, inspired by Kandinsky.
The gallery director emphasized that Rama is a unique artist-politician, creating art actively while serving in office. His upcoming exhibition will feature previously unseen works, including outdoor bronze and ceramic sculptures.
The Times concluded that despite political controversies, Rama maintains a high international profile, integrating art into his public life and demonstrating the ongoing link between his creative and political careers.
