Thousands of Albanians gathered in The Hague to support former KLA leaders on trial at the Specialist Chambers for war crimes

The protest started at 14:00 and drew participants from Albania and the Diaspora.

Some banners read: “Honor those who fought for our future,” “Justice for the heroes of my people,” and “Five years on trial, freedom must exist, injustice cannot last forever, freedom now”.

The diaspora organized the protest, and the KLA War Veterans Organization (OVL-UÇK) supported it.

Meanwhile, media reported that protesters passed by the Specialist Court building before reaching the main protest site.

Authorities deployed extra Dutch security forces and set up roadblocks along the route.

According to KosovaPress footage, around 500 protesters gathered at the site more than two hours before the protest began.

Former veterans and citizens from Kosova, the Presheva Valley, North Macedonia, Albania, the United States, and other European countries attended the demonstration.

Organizers had anticipated a large turnout due to the interest of Albanians worldwide.

Several veteran representatives spoke to the crowd.

OVL-UÇK leader Hysni Gucati called on international actors not to ignore what he called injustices. He said liberators should not face trial as criminals.

Fatmir Koci, spokesperson for the Protest Council for Europe, told protesters they gathered to raise their voice and say “enough with injustice.”

He added, “We face an unforgivable injustice. The Serbian state has not accounted for the crimes committed”.

The main case at the Specialist Chambers involves former KLA leaders, including former Kosova President Hashim Thaçi, former parliamentary leaders Kadri Veseli and Jakup Krasniqi, and former Kosova MP Rexhep Selimi. All four deny charges of war crimes and crimes against humanity.
