The renowned Albanian actress, Tinka Kurti, celebrates her 92nd birthday today, marking a remarkable career that has left an indelible mark on the country’s cinematic history.

Blendi Gonxhja, the Minister of Economy, Culture, and Innovation, extended his heartfelt congratulations to Kurti on this milestone. “As the lead in Albania’s first feature film Tana and with over 300 roles in both theater and film, Tinka Kurti has been recognized with prestigious titles, including ‘Merited Artist’ and ‘People’s Artist,’ as well as the ‘Master of Work’ medal. We wish her continued health and many more years among us,” wrote Gonxhja in a social media post.

Born on December 17, 1932, in Sarajevo, Tinka Kurti was raised in a family deeply involved in the arts. Her mother was a prominent actress at the National Theater of Sarajevo. At the age of five, her family relocated to Shkodra, where Kurti completed her primary education before moving to Tirana in 1947 to attend the Polytechnic High School. It was during this time that she unexpectedly transitioned to the Drama Department at the Artistic Lyceum, a decision that would shape her future.

Since her groundbreaking role in the 1958 film Tana, Albania’s first feature film, Kurti has dedicated over 75 years to the arts, making significant contributions to Albanian cinema and theater.

Tinka Kurti is celebrated not only for the profound emotional range she brought to her roles but also for her distinctive acting style, which continues to influence and inspire generations of artists in Albania and beyond.
