TIRANA, February 2 – ArchDaily nominated the Tirana Mosaic for the “Building of the Year 2026” award.

Tourism, Culture, and Sports Minister Blendi Gonxhja said the site combines archaeological preservation with contemporary architecture. He added that the nomination positions Tirana internationally as an example of dialogue between history and modernity.

Gonxhja explained that the mosaic dates to the 3rd century and was discovered in the 1970s during construction work. He said the site now serves as a modern space to showcase Albania’s most important mosaics and attract cultural visitors.

He emphasized that conservation and educational programs for children and youth make the site a key platform for interpreting Albania’s archaeological heritage today.

Gonxhja also noted that the building provides visual information on all mosaics preserved in Albania’s rich archaeological subsoil.
