Tish Daija, the renowned Albanian composer and musician, was born on January 30, 1926, in Shkodër to a family of artisans. Before even starting school, he became a member of the Franciscan choir. At the age of 10, he joined the “Antoniane” music band, directed by Prenkë Jakova, where he began playing the clarinet, saxophone, and other instruments.

At just 13 years old, Daija composed his first songs, including “Çik, o mori çik,” “Ndal bre vashë,” “Me lule të bukura,” and “Sylarushe,” which remain widely popular and continue to be performed by various artists.

In 1946, after completing his studies, he was appointed music teacher in Vlora. He later graduated in composition from the P. I. Tchaikovsky Conservatory in Moscow (1951–1956).

Daija made significant contributions to the Ministry of Education and Culture, where he worked for six years. In 1962, he joined the National Folk Song and Dance Ensemble, where he organized numerous concerts both within Albania and internationally.

With his ballet “Halili and Hajrija” (1962), Daija became the creator of the first Albanian ballet. He composed across nearly all musical genres, including film music. As one of the most distinctive figures in Albanian music, Daija introduced progressive, emancipatory tendencies through his works (“Erë pranverore,” “Natën vonë,” etc.). Alongside Çesk Zadeja, he founded the composition department at the State Conservatory of Tirana.

For his lifelong dedication and profound contributions to Albanian music, Tish Daija was honored with the title of “People’s Artist,” as well as the title of “Professor.” He was also an external member of the Academy of Sciences and Arts of Kosovo.
