US Department of Defense: No Planned Changes to Troop Positioning in Kosova

The US Department of Defense has confirmed that there are currently no planned changes to the positioning of US forces in Kosova.

A spokesperson from the Department told ‘Radio Free Europe’ that, “for now, there are no changes in the positioning of forces“.

However, former senior NATO official Jamie Shea remarked that US President Donald Trump is “transactional” and may seek concessions from Kosova in exchange for maintaining US troops there.

“Therefore, be prepared,” Shea advised ‘Radio Free Europe’.

For over 25 years, NATO’s mission in Kosovo, KFOR, has ensured security in the region. The mission began its deployment in Kosovo in June 1999, immediately following the signing of the Kumanova Agreement, which mandated the full withdrawal of Serbian military and police forces.

Initially, KFOR was composed of approximately 50,000 troops, but over time, this number has reduced to around 4,600.

Meanwhile, today, US soldiers from KFOR conducted patrols along Kosovo’s northern borders.

According to KFOR, these efforts are part of their daily mission to ensure a secure environment for all communities in Kosovo.

KFOR further emphasized that it continues to implement its mandate, based on UN Security Council Resolution 1244, to contribute to a secure environment and ensure freedom of movement for all people and communities in Kosovo, impartially and at all times.

“KFOR remains committed to its mandate, under UN Security Council Resolution 1244, to ensure security for all people and communities in Kosovo and uphold the freedom of movement at all times. KFOR works closely with the Kosovo Police and the European Union Rule of Law Mission in Kosovo (EULEX) to fulfill their respective security roles,” KFOR’s statement highlighted.
