US Diplomat Urges Kosovo Leaders to Resolve Political Deadlock

The U.S. Chargé d’Affaires in Pristina, Anu Prattipati, met today with Acting Prime Minister Albin Kurti. She urged Kosovo’s political leaders to take responsibility and work together to end the ongoing institutional deadlock.

“A functioning democracy requires all citizens to freely choose their representatives,” she said.

Prattipati warned that blocking legitimate political parties—whether through political tactics or procedural obstacles—threatens the integrity of the democratic process. Her remarks were shared in a post by the U.S. Embassy on Facebook.

She called on all leaders to move beyond divisions and fulfill the mandate given to them by the people of Kosovo.

This week, Prattipati also met with leaders of the PDK, LDK, and AAK.

Kosovo has faced a political deadlock for months due to the failure to convene the new parliament.

The Constitutional Court has imposed a temporary measure, valid until August 8. This measure prohibits any parliamentary action to constitute the ninth legislature, following the expiration of the 30-day deadline on July 26.
