US Embassy in Kosovo: We Need a Partner Who Avoids Destabilizing Actions

The United States suspended its strategic dialogue with Kosovo indefinitely. The US Embassy in Pristina said Washington needs a partner who avoids destabilizing actions, strengthens regional stability, and protects the rights of all Kosovars.
The embassy spokesperson said Chargé d’Affaires Anu Prattipati holds regular meetings with Acting Prime Minister Albin Kurti. She has raised US concerns directly and clearly with him. The US will remain a close ally of Kosovo’s people, but it expects constructive cooperation from the government.
The acting government rejected US criticism. It said all actions have been legal, constitutional, and aimed at removing sources of instability. President Vjosa Osmani expressed regret over the US decision.
The strategic dialogue usually involves high-level talks on defense, security, energy, and economic cooperation. Kosovo had planned to start the talks this year, but the US paused them due to concerns about government actions.
Recently, Kurti and other Vetëvendosje officials criticized the Constitutional Court, claiming bias. The court issued a temporary order stopping MPs from taking actions in the Assembly until September 30. The order followed a request from the Serb List.
Both the court and the international community condemned Kurti’s pressure on the judiciary.
