US Embassy: Kosova Leaders Must Find Constitutional Solution in Coming Weeks

The United States Embassy in Prishtina stated that political leaders must use the coming weeks to find a solution. This solution should ensure stable leadership that respects the Constitution.

In a response to Klankosova.tv, an embassy spokesperson said the political deadlock delays Kosova’s progress. It also threatens the integrity of its institutions.

“This ongoing blockage slows Kosovo’s future progress. It endangers the institutions for which the people of Kosova fought hard to create. We urge political leaders to take their responsibilities seriously. They must work together to form an agreement for constituting the Assembly. This includes electing a chairperson and deputy chairpersons. Leaders must use the upcoming weeks to find a way forward. It must guarantee stable leadership that respects the Constitution. Political leaders should not rely on the Constitutional Court to resolve a political deadlock that only they can fix. The people of Kosovo expect their leaders to fulfill their commitment to work in the country’s best interest,” the embassy said in its reply to Klankosova.tv.

Meanwhile, after 55 sessions, Kosovo’s new Assembly has still not formed.

After the 30-day constitutional deadline expired, the Constitutional Court stopped all parliamentary actions. This happened due to the failure to elect the chairperson and the Assembly leadership.
