Vangjush Mio is an Albanian well-known painter from Korca. He graduated from the Academy of Fine Arts in Rome, where he also won two awards for restoration and painting.

Mio is one of the most important painters among Albanian realist artists of the 20th century. He has rightly been called “the poet of the Albanian landscape”.

The work of Vangjush Mio contributed to the education of new generations of artists in the conditions of the wild cultural isolation in which they were found, because he belonged to an art school outside the framework of socialist realism.

The painter has participated in many fine arts exhibitions organized both in Albania and abroad. We can recall Italy, Romania, China, at the Biennale of Alexandria, Greece, Egypt, Turkey, Russia and the former Yugoslavia.

His works are counted in 500 paintings, 200 drawings and 80 paintings, which are stored in his house, the “Vangjush Mio” Museum in Korça.

Critics consider him as the painter who took the first step of Albanian painting towards modern concepts.
