Vangjush Mio’s photos are digitized, unveiling Albania in the 1930s

When we say Vangjush Mio, our mind spontaneously goes to the painting and we almost associate his name with photography.

But recently, the digitization of the 450 negatives shot by him during the 30s-40s are exhibited for the first time and present another side of the first Albanian impressionist.

The Ministry of Culture and “Fototeka” presented this project that automatically preserves the painter’s photographic fund at the same time and reveals to the general public the appearance of Albania in those years.

From here we understand that painting and photography did not remain separate in the artist’s life. He has often used photography as a raw material for his sketches and paintings.
In Mio’s objective, characteristic dwellings, cult objects that are no longer there, pastoral scenes and villages of the Southeast, as well as the special landscapes of Korça, Pogradec, Elbasan, Kruja, Durrës and Vlora are fixed.
