President Vjosa Osmani congratulated CDU leader Friedrich Merz today. He was elected Chancellor of Germany.

Osmani wrote on X that she looks forward to working with Merz. She wants to advance Kosovo’s path toward EU and NATO membership.

“On behalf of the people of Kosovo, I congratulate Chancellor Friedrich Merz. I wish him and the German Government success in their new mandate. This is a crucial moment for Europe’s unity and security. Germany’s leadership matters now more than ever. As one of Kosovo’s key allies, we will strengthen our partnership. We will work together to move Kosovo forward toward the EU and NATO,” Osmani wrote.

Merz won 325 votes in the second round of voting in the Bundestag. He passed the required majority of 316 by nine votes.

He became the tenth Chancellor of the Federal Republic of Germany.

CDU/CSU and SPD hold 328 seats in parliament. They supported Merz in the secret ballot.
