Vote Counting for Parliamentary Candidates Begins Today in Kosova

The counting of votes for parliamentary candidates in Kosova begins today, February 11, following the February 9 elections. The Central Election Commission (CEC) has confirmed that around 99% of votes for political entities have already been counted.

CEC spokesperson Valmir Elezi stated that the counting process will take place in the Municipal Counting Centers, where results for political entities will also be verified, in line with CEC Election Regulation 16/2024.

“Once these procedures are completed, including the counting of out-of-country votes, conditional votes, and votes from individuals with special needs, the CEC will announce the final results for both political entities and parliamentary candidates,” Elezi said.

Preliminary results show Self-Determination Movement of PM Kurti, leading with 40.83% of the vote, followed by the Democratic Party of Kosova (PDK) with 22.15%, the Democratic League of Kosova (LDK) with 17.59%, the Alliance for the Future of Kosova (AAK) with 7.47%, and the Serb List with 4.43%.

Despite Self0Determination’s lead, the party has not secured an absolute majority and will need a coalition to govern. However, PDK has ruled out forming an alliance with Self-Determination. PDK’s prime ministerial candidate, Bedri Hamza, stated that the election results clearly reflect the will of the people and that, as the second-largest party, PDK will take the necessary steps to uphold the voters’ mandate.

Similarly, AAK leader Ramush Haradinaj acknowledged the election results but ruled out any possibility of a coalition with Self-Determination.

With no clear majority, Kosova’s political landscape remains uncertain as coalition negotiations unfold.
