Today, writer Zija Çela celebrates his 80th birthday. Fans of his literature send their wishes, praising his creativity and the experiences his work has offered over the years.

Writer Mehmet Kraja highlighted that Zija Çela’s novels are artistic monuments in Albanian prose. He praised their exemplary language, style, and the author’s synthesis of literary experience.

Kraja wrote: “With his novels, Albanian prose achieves full artistic inclusiveness, major narrative transformations, modern subjective perspectives, and new explorations in ideas, artistic expression, and language cultivation.”

Zija Çela was born on March 25, 1946, in Shkodër. He was the seventh child in a family where his father worked and his mother was a homemaker.

After graduating in Literature from the University of Tirana, he became a teacher in the mountain villages of Kukës, where he worked for many years.

He gained recognition with his short story collections, followed by novels. He is especially known for his trilogy: Gjaku i dallëndyshes, Gjysma e Xhokondës, and Banketi i hijeve. Earlier, he published Një verë pa lamtumirë and Mali i tejdukshëm, the latter praised for strong realism and modern form, seen as his rebellion against socialist realism.

His autobiographical book Për dashurinë shkruhet pas vdekjes and the novel SOS, një buzëqeshje reflect his extraordinary response to life’s challenges and sufferings.

Zija Çela has won numerous literary awards.
