1600 workers deployed to address power supply issues

TIRANA, January 9 – Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Infrastructure and Energy, Belinda Balluku, said today that according to the 08:00 report from the Transmission System Operator, all transmission lines were operational with no reported issues.

She told the Inter-ministerial Committee for Civil Emergencies that the overall situation across the country had improved.

Balluku said more than 1,600 workers have been deployed on the ground. Since January 2, teams worked in the most affected areas: Tirana, Durrës, Vlora, Gjirokastër, and Elbasan. She added that northern areas also received attention, but investments in the north had kept them protected and less affected.

The minister noted some temporary outages in Kukës and Librazhd due to changing weather in mountainous areas of the north and northeast. All issues were restored within a short time.

Regarding medium and low voltage, Balluku said yesterday marked the peak of disruptions. A total of 38,731 subscribers lost power, compared to one million total subscribers nationwide. Today, the number decreased to 19,175. By 08:00, 4,786 subscribers in urban areas, 10,030 in rural areas, and 4,359 in remote rural areas still lacked electricity.

Teams continue restoration work to reconnect all affected subscribers.

Balluku added that all substations operate normally nationwide, except for two affected by water: Kafaraj and Poçem. She said that as the Vjosa River level drops, authorities hope to restore both substations quickly after cleaning and ensuring safety conditions.
