Arbëresh Museum in Vuno to Connect Generations and Coasts

Vuno in Himara will soon host the Arbëresh Museum. It preserves the memory, culture, and spirit of a community that has kept its language and traditions for over five centuries outside Albania.
Minister of Economy, Culture, and Innovation Blendi Gonxhja visited the site today. He said the museum “will not be just a building. It will be a living bridge between generations and coasts. Exhibitions, memories, and cultural dialogue will bring ancestors’ stories to life”.
The project will link the history of the oldest Albanian diaspora with today’s generations. It will strengthen cultural and spiritual ties with Arbëresh communities in Italy.
The museum will rise in Vuno’s historic center, near St. Spyridon and St. Michael churches. Authorities also plan to restore these monuments. Gonxhja highlighted that the museum and restored churches will turn the area into a vibrant mosaic. Spiritual heritage will meet contemporary musealization, architectural revival, and cultural itineraries.
The museum will boost Vuno’s cultural identity and enrich historical and cultural tourism beyond the summer season. It will support educational programs and local community activities.
It will be built in the former eight-year school of Vuno. Many Arbëresh families who emigrated in the 17th century lived there. The museum will become a new tourist attraction for the village.
