Hoxha Tells EU Ambassadors Peaceful Protest Is a Fundamental Right, Violence Is Unacceptable

Europe and Foreign Affairs Minister Ferit Hoxha has reaffirmed the government’s commitment to democratic freedoms, stressing that peaceful protest is a fundamental right but violence and vandalism have no place in political expression.
Hoxha made the remarks during a meeting with ambassadors of European Union member states in Albania on Sunday, where they discussed recent developments in the country. He condemned attacks on public and private property, saying no one can justify such acts as a legitimate form of expression, in Albania or elsewhere in Europe.
The meeting also addressed the need to preserve institutional stability, uphold the rule of law and ensure that public authorities act lawfully and proportionately. Hoxha reaffirmed the government’s readiness to engage in dialogue at any time and with anyone not involved in violent acts. He described dialogue as the best way to bridge differences, address concerns and move forward together.
Turning to EU integration, Hoxha stressed that membership remains a strategic national objective. “Difficult moments must strengthen our determination, not divert us from reforms, democratic standards and the responsibilities that come with our ambition to join the European Union,” he said.
Hoxha also welcomed the open exchange with European partners and their continued engagement with Albania in pursuit of the shared goal of EU membership.
