580th anniversary of the League of Lezha

On March 2, 1444, called by George Kastrioti, the League of Lezha was convened.
The League of Lezha created a political and military alliance of Albanian nobles against the Ottoman invaders. It became the first political union on a pan-Albanian scale that is known in the history of the country. In the frame of this League, otherwise known in history as the Covenant of Lezha , the Albanian nobles preserved all the rights they had over their possessions.
George Kastrioti Skanderbeg, as the military commander of the League, organized the army that consisted of the permanent forces and the forces that would be mobilized in case of war.
The permanent forces were formed from the units of the Albanian lords, according to the quota that were set in Lezha. The League’s army was made of 8,000 cavalry and 7,000 infantry, one third of it was made of Skanderbeg’s Guard.
The General Directorate of Archives, on the occasion of this marked date, brought documents that show data related to the organization of this Assembly.
