61st Venice Art Biennale: Gonxhja Announces Albania’s Representative

TIRANA, November 7 – Minister of Tourism, Culture, and Sports Blendi Gonxhja announced that artist Genti Korini will represent Albania at the 61st Venice Art Biennale. His project is titled “A Place in the Sun”.

The jury, composed of Adela Demetja, Katerina Gregos, Blanche de Lestrange, Elian Stefa, and Arnisa Zeqo, selected Korini from 17 applications submitted through an open call.

In its statement, the jury praised the project for its conceptual depth and visual accuracy. They said: “The project stands out for the depth of its conceptual framework and the precision of its visual execution. By combining archival research, folklore, and imagination, Korini explores how collective memory and ideology shape identity and space. He weaves connections between Albania’s past and its interactions with the Soviet Union. The jury appreciated the creative reuse of local visual archives from an absurdist and Eastern perspective. They also noted his multidimensional and experimental approach to history. Developed in collaboration with curator Małgorzata Ludwisiak, the project offers a rich visual and intellectual dialogue in conversation with Polish experimental theater”.

Minister Gonxhja congratulated the artist on this achievement. He emphasized the importance of showcasing Albanian contemporary art internationally:

“We wish Genti much success with his project and look forward to the presentation of Albania’s pavilion in Venice next May,” the minister said.

The Venice Art Biennale is one of the world’s most prestigious contemporary art events. Participating countries present the most representative works of their artistic creativity.
