80th Anniversary of the Writers’ League of Albania

Tirana, October 7 – The Writers’ League was established in October 1945 in Tirana.
Two years later, in 1947, the League of Artists joined, bringing together writers and the country’s artistic community.
At its founding, the League counted 70 members, including journalists and linguists.
The Directorate General of Archives noted that the number of members grew over time. Sejfulla Malëshova was elected as the first chairman, while Fan Noli received an honorary presidential role. Later leaders included Dhimitër Shuteriqi, Dritëro Agolli, Bardhyl Londo, Xhevahir Spahiu, and Limos Dizdari.
The League developed its own literary and artistic publications. These included the magazine Literatura jonë [Our Literature], later “Letërsia jonë” [Our Literature] (1947), the monthly “Nëntori” [November] (1954), the weekly “Drita” [The Light] (1961), the French-language magazine Les lettres Albanaises [Albanian Letters] (1978), “Bota Letrare” [Literary World], and “Revista Letraré” [Literary Magazine].
