The art restorers of the Korça Regional Directorate of Cultural Heritage (DRTK) are in the process of conserving the mural painting in the church of Saint George in Vithkuq.

The intervention is being carried out in the part of the apse of the church. As a result of the humidity over the years, the wall painting, in this part, had suffered damage and detachment of the plaster.

The damaged part of the wall painting was moved with the operation technique to continue with the conservation work in the premises of DRTK Korça.

Vithkuq has 24 churches. It occupies a special place in Albania, not for their number, but for its architecture and decoration.

The churches of the Archangels, Saint Mary, Saint Spiridon, Saint Kozmai and many others are old and famous, and have mostly spread culture and knowledge in Vidhkuq and area around.

The churches of Vithkuq and Voskopoja are monuments of architectural and artistic value, inspired by the legacy of the Byzantine cult. They have been described as “Unique Treasures” in the region and beyond.
