The National Institute of Cultural Heritage NICH), every weekend, brings to attention one of our monuments, which is worth visiting.

This weekend NICH highlights the Grazhdan Fortification, which is located near the village of Grazhdan, about 14 km from the city of Peshkopia.

The fortification rises on a plateau, on the right side of the Black Drin. It ranks among the field castles built, for military purposes, in the period of late antiquity, specifically dating back to 4th century AD.

Ar an an area of about 34 ha, this fortification is one of the largest centers of this period in Albania. It is protected by 42 towers and walls with generally straight lines, up to 3.5 m wide.

Its strategic location, at the junction between the Egnatia road and the Lissus-Naissus road, makes it an important center of antiquity in Albania.
