Greek Foreign Minister: Albania should not be separated from North Macedonia in the accession process

The Greek Minister of Foreign Affairs said that Athens does not support the separation of Albania from North Macedonia on the road to European integration.

Greek official Militiadis Varvitsiotis spoke after a communication with Macedonian Deputy Prime Minister Nikola Dimitrov. They share the same opinion that Europe must fulfill the promises it has made to the two countries.

“There should be no delays in the accession process for North Macedonia and Albania,” said Minister Militiadis Varvitsiotis at the Delphi Forum in Athens.

Verviciotis stressed that the membership of Albania and North Macedonia in the European Union is in the interest of Athens, as in the end Greece would be bordered to the north and west only by member states of the union.

“It is important that the process starts immediately for all candidate countries. We do not want to accept any separation between North Macedonia and Albania. We see this as a catastrophic approach to regional stability,” said the Greek Foreign Minister.
