Enzo Cucchi Exhibition Opens June 6 at COD

The exhibition “I soli di tutte le terre” by artist Enzo Cucchi will open on June 6 at the Center for Openness and Dialogue (COD). First, Cucchi, a leading figure in international contemporary art, presents his first show in Albania. He brings a collection of important works.

To begin with, the exhibition features key phases of his long career. It starts with early masterpieces from a major private collection, such as Quadro santo (1980), Carro di fuoco (1981), Paesaggio barbaro (1983), and Il miracolo della neve (1986). Notably, these works have not been exhibited together for many years.

Moreover, the exhibition highlights Cucchi’s deep connection to the Marche region. This area serves as a foundation for his artistic research. In fact, a dedicated section shows small paintings of different places in Marche. Cucchi believes the region holds “the full presence of an emotion needed by an artist.”

Next, the second part of the exhibition focuses on drawing. Cucchi regards drawing as the core of his art and his bond with Marche. Here, visitors can see a decade’s worth of his drawings filled with typical landscape elements from the region.

Furthermore, curators from Spazio Taverna explain: “Cucchi’s art arrives in Albania, bringing the sun, cypresses, land, fields, and hills of Marche. It shares the Mediterranean days that warm the earth and connect the two shores of the Adriatic. Predrag Matvejević called it ‘the sea of intimacy,’ under the sign of painting.”

Enzo Cucchi, born in 1949 in Morro d’Alba, is considered the most visionary artist of the Transavanguardia movement. Since the 1980s, he has gained international fame. He has exhibited in major venues like Kunsthalle Basel, Solomon R. Guggenheim New York, Tate London, Centre Pompidou Paris, Castello di Rivoli, Palazzo Reale Milan, Sezon Museum Tokyo, Villa Medici Rome, Musée d’art moderne Saint-Étienne, and MAXXI.

Additionally, he has participated in important contemporary art exhibitions such as the Venice Biennale, Documenta Kassel, and Rome Quadriennale.

His works now reside in leading museums worldwide and prestigious private collections nationally and internationally.

Finally, the exhibition will remain open until July 5.
