Albanian Community in U.S. Celebrates Culture with Byrek Festival

The Albanian community in the United States keeps Albanian culture and tradition alive through various festive events.

One of them was the “Byrek Festival,” organized for the second year in a row by the Albanian community in Illinois-Chicago.

Prime Minister Edi Rama shared images from the event, where the art of Albanian cuisine was on display.

“The ‘Byrek Festival’ is a beautiful tradition of the Albanian community in Illinois-Chicago,” said Rama. “Hundreds of Albanians take part, bringing byrek made with recipes from all over Albania, preserving and passing on our culinary art across generations—even on a faraway continent.”

At the fair, Albanian homemakers presented many types of byrek, preserving the richness of traditional cuisine.

One of the main challenges the community faces in the U.S. is preserving the language, culture, and traditions.

That’s why the community works to pass these values to younger generations through events like this.
