Prime Minister and Diplomats Attend COD Exhibition Opening

Last night, the Center for Openness and Dialogue (COD) opened the exhibition “I soli di tutte le terre” – “The Suns of All Lands.”

First, Prime Minister Edi Rama attended the event. Alongside him, Nancy Van Horn, the US envoy to Tirana, joined the ceremony. In addition, many diplomats and cultural figures were present.

This exhibition, for the first time, shows Enzo Cucchi’s work in Tirana. He is a major name in contemporary Italian painting.

Moreover, the Italian Cultural Institute and Spazio Taverna helped organize the exhibition. It explores where spirit meets matter. Specifically, the exhibition uses light as a symbol. Therefore, it connects two shores with a bridge of art and thought.

The show presents key moments in Cucchi’s career. To begin with, it starts with early masterpieces from a private collection. Paintings like Quadro santo (1980), Carro di fuoco (1981), Paesaggio barbaro (1983), and Il miracolo della neve (1986) appear together for the first time in many years.

Furthermore, the exhibition highlights Cucchi’s bond with the Marche region. This area inspires much of his art. For example, a section features small paintings of different places in Marche. Cucchi calls this region full of emotions vital to his art.

Next, the second part of the exhibition focuses on drawing. It shows Cucchi’s work over ten years. He sees drawing as the foundation of his art and his link to Marche. Thus, his drawings capture typical landscapes of the region.

As a result, Cucchi’s art brings the sun, cypresses, earth, fields, and hills of Marche to Albania. It shares Mediterranean warmth and unites the Adriatic’s two shores. Curators explain that this reflects what Predrag Matvejević called “the sea of intimacy.”

Born in 1949 in Morro d’Alba, Enzo Cucchi is a visionary artist of the Transavanguardia movement. Since the 1980s, he has gained international fame.

He has exhibited in top venues like Kunsthalle Basel, Solomon R. Guggenheim New York, Tate Gallery London, and Centre Pompidou Paris.

Additionally, Cucchi participated in major art events like the Venice Biennale, Documenta Kassel, and Rome Quadriennale.

His works appear in leading museums and private collections worldwide.

Finally, the exhibition “The Suns of All Lands” runs until July 5, 2025. It is open at the COD gallery in the Prime Minister’s office.
