Special Screening Opens “Dea Open Air” Festival

The 12th edition of the “Dea Open Air” International Film Festival opened at the University of Arts.
After the red carpet event, festival director Edmond Topi welcomed the guests.
Topi said, “For twelve years, Dea has stayed loyal to its mission: promoting cinema with passion, meaning, and integrity.” He added that this year’s theme, “Cinema as Integrity,” reflects today’s urgent need.
Artistic Director Mirela Oktrova emphasized cinema’s social role and the impact of film festivals.
She said, “Dea chooses to support and showcase films that speak about humanity, truth, and courage, rather than commercial success.”
The festival competition includes three sections:
- Feature Films, with six entries from Albania, Brazil, North Macedonia, Italy, Poland, and Turkey.
- Student Films, with thirteen entries from nine countries.
- Short Films, with nineteen entries from fifteen countries.
The festival opened with a special screening outside the competition.
The film “Let Death Wait,” written by Uli Bree and directed by Edmond Topi, stars top Albanian actors.
It is a romantic comedy that also addresses important social issues.
The film focuses on the elderly, presenting them as active contributors to society.
It also pays tribute to the late Albanian cinema legend, actress Margarita Xhepa.
