Rare Cross from Dishnica Unveiled by National Museum of Medieval Art in Korça

As part of the “Origin and Craftsmanship” project, the National Museum of Medieval Art has presented images of another unique item from its treasured collection.
This time, the spotlight falls on a rare cross from the village of Dishnica in Korça, featuring exceptional woodcarving enclosed within a metallic frame.
At the center of the cross lies a finely detailed scene of the Baptism, carved with outstanding artistic precision. The level of detail is remarkable, especially considering the cross’s miniature dimensions.
Woodcarving is one of Albania’s oldest artistic traditions, passed down through centuries. It has flourished across the country, with each region adding its own stylistic touch. From essential household items to decorative religious artifacts, this craft has played a vital role in the cultural life of the Albanian people.
The museum notes that geometric, floral, and zoomorphic motifs, expertly carved, will remain a key focus of its ongoing program dedicated to cultural heritage, traditional crafts, and artisan techniques.
