Bektashi World Leader Calls for Peace and Moral Action on Day of Ashura

On the Day of Ashura, the World Leader of the Bektashi Order, Haxhi Dede Baba Edmond Brahimaj, urged believers to compete in good deeds and to uphold human dignity, core values, and the institution of family.
Speaking before the faithful, Baba Mondi stated, “Strive for good deeds and seize every opportunity to act righteously. On this sacred day, our duty is to preserve humanity, values, family, virtues, and spiritual and mental well-being.”
In light of growing global conflicts, Baba Mondi called for an end to wars and hostilities. He emphasized the need to give way to peace and mutual understanding. He reminded listeners that the foremost responsibility—especially of world leaders—is to pursue freedom, peace, and democracy.
“We pray for peace and kindness, for conflicts and wars to cease, and for progress in democratic development. Our eyes must turn to prayer and our hearts to God,” he said.
The Day of Ashura holds special significance for Bektashis worldwide. Baba Mondi recalled the words of the Prophet, affirming that Muharram is a sacred month. As such, sins committed during this time bear heavier consequences, while good deeds are rewarded more generously.
