Bylis, the Ancient City Where History Is Etched in Stone

Bylis, one of Albania’s most important ancient cities, is finally receiving the attention it deserves.

Images shared online by Minister of Economy, Culture, and Innovation Blendi Gonxhja reveal the grandeur of Bylis. The site reflects a deep cultural legacy that inspires pride among locals and visitors from around the world.

The Bylis Archaeological Park stands as a rare treasure of Albania’s cultural heritage. It is also one of the best-preserved cities of ancient Illyria.

Built on a hill overlooking the Vjosa valley, Bylis features monumental walls from the 4th century BC, an impressive theater, rare mosaics, and five early Christian basilicas.

Under the 2024–2029 Management Plan, part of the IPA program “EU for Economic Development – Tourism-Led,” Bylis and the nearby ancient city of Klos are becoming new hubs for education, development, and cooperation.

The plan includes professional restoration and sustainable protection. It also focuses on improved visitor infrastructure, community support in tourism and crafts, and educational programs for youth.
