Albania Promotes Cultural Heritage and Geographical Indications at WIPO General Assembly

Minister of Economy, Culture and Innovation Blendi Gonxhja described Albania’s side event at the WIPO General Assembly in Geneva as a historic step. The event promoted Albania’s cultural heritage and products with geographical indications.
It took place at the headquarters of the World Intellectual Property Organization, with over 600 delegates from around the world in attendance.
Gonxhja said this marked an important step toward affirming Albania’s national identity and aligning with international standards for intellectual property protection.
This was the first time Albania organized an official activity at WIPO, presenting authentic elements of its cultural heritage to a global audience.
The event showcased products protected by geographical indication, traditional costumes from different regions, and fine filigree work as a symbol of Albanian craftsmanship. The artistic program featured traditional dances, music from Albanian territories, and a dedicated presentation on geographical indications and traditional cultural expressions.
WIPO, a UN agency with 193 member states, leads the development of a balanced global system of intellectual property that supports innovation, creativity, and sustainability. It works to protect creative and industrial rights across cultures and economies.
