House-Museum for Dritëro Agolli: Foundations Laid to Preserve the Writer’s Legacy

In a key moment for national culture and memory, the village of Menkulas in Devoll laid the foundations for a house-museum dedicated to the renowned Albanian writer Dritëro Agolli.

This museum will actively preserve his legacy. It will exhibit manuscripts, personal belongings, photographs, and archival documents. Moreover, it will host cultural events that celebrate Albania’s rich literary heritage.

Elona Agolli, the writer’s daughter, told Albanian Radio and Television,  RTSH, “The museum will include a special space devoted to the Bektashi family traditions and the personal history of Dritëro Agolli’s family”.

World Bektashi Leader Haxhi Dede Edmond Brahimaj emphasized, “Dritëro was a leading figure in our nation. He served as a MP and inspired us through his works and words to pursue good causes”.

Similarly, Aleksandër Çipa, head of the Journalists’ Union, said, “Establishing a memorial or museum in his birthplace honors our culture. It serves as a national remembrance for Albanian literature and heritage. European critics once called him a ‘Kafka with more light,’ highlighting his literary significance”.

Dritëro’s relative, Ylber Hoxha, expressed strong appreciation for the museum project. He said, “This is a wonderful achievement for our village, and we thank the government wholeheartedly.”

This initiative aims to become a vital reference point for visitors, researchers, and young people. It will offer them an opportunity to learn intimately about one of Albania’s most humane, honorable, and beloved cultural icons.
