Albanian Medieval Icons Travel to France for Major International Exhibition

Over 45 icons from the National Museum of Medieval Art in Korça will travel to Chambéry, France. The exhibition will open at the Museum of Fine Arts in Chambéry.
Minister Blendi Gonxhja made the announcement today. He said the exhibition will showcase selected icons to French and international audiences.
The project is part of the cultural cooperation between Albania and France. It will also involve the French Scientific Committee. This strengthens ties between museums in both countries.
Gonxhja called the exhibition a major step for Albanian art. It highlights Korça as a key center of medieval art in Southeastern Europe.
The National Museum in Korça holds over 8,200 objects. Around 6,400 of them are icons. It has the largest icon collection in the world. These works are a rare treasure of Albanian and global heritage.
The exhibition will run from May to October 2026. After Chambéry, it will move to another French city until March 2027.
