Albanian feature film “Man of the House” to Premiere at Sarajevo Film Festival 2025

The National Center of Cinematography (QKK) has announced exciting news: the feature film Man of the House (Burri i Shtëpisë), directed by Andamion Murataj, will have its world premiere at the 2025 Sarajevo Film Festival.

The production is brought to the screen by Lissus Media, with financial support from National Center of Cinematography. Notably, Andamion Murataj also wrote the script, further imprinting his unique vision on the project.

The film runs for 110 minutes and explores a deeply rooted Albanian tradition through the story of Fran, a person born female but living as a man—known as a burrneshë. Fran has embraced this identity for years, but everything changes when her young niece enters her life. To give the child the love of a mother, Fran is faced with a heart-wrenching decision: should she continue living as a burrneshë or reconnect with her feminine and maternal identity?

Alesia Ruçi, a promising young actress, plays the role of the niece, delivering what is anticipated to be a touching and powerful performance at the heart of the film’s emotional journey.

The 31st edition of the Sarajevo Film Festival will take place from August 15 to 22, 2025. The festival will open with The Pavilion, directed by acclaimed Bosnian filmmaker Dino Mustafić.

This year’s competition promises to be intense, with 50 films competing for the prestigious Heart of Sarajevo Award. The lineup includes 15 world premieres, 6 international premieres, 28 regional premieres, and 2 national premieres.

In addition to showcasing powerful films, the festival will celebrate global cinematic talent. Italian director Paolo Sorrentino will receive the Honorary Heart of Sarajevo Award for his outstanding contribution to the art of filmmaking.

Furthermore, Swedish actor Stellan Skarsgård and American actor Willem Dafoe will also be honored with special recognition awards, highlighting the festival’s commitment to celebrating excellence in international cinema.
