Interactive Workshop in Durrës Revives Xhubleta and Historic Door Symbols

Durrës hosted a creative workshop that brought together children and adults in an interactive process. Through art and hands-on work, participants discovered traditional symbols of the xhubleta and distinctive elements of the city’s old doors.
“Cultural heritage is not only to be preserved, but also to be felt, explored, and re-created,” reads a statement on the Ministry of Economy, Culture, and Innovation’s website. The Ministry supported the project.
The focus was the xhubleta — a symbolic garment with millennia of history. Children reinterpreted it through beadwork and decorative motifs. In another corner, participants decorated models of the city’s old doors with embroidery and colors, creating new stories from ancient symbols.
The Ministry said the workshop encouraged active and creative participation, making cultural heritage more accessible and engaging.
