MEKI-Supported Program Engages Youth in Creative Recycling through Glass Art

In the heart of Tirana, a creative journey unfolded—redefining the art of glassmaking and inspiring young people to express themselves through a material both delicate and captivating.

An intensive course at QELQ Tirana’s Glass Hub transformed ordinary days into extraordinary experiences. Youthful energy merged with bold ideas, resulting in works of art that conveyed not only form, but also story and purpose.

The creative process began with a sketch—an initial idea on paper—which later took shape as a tangible object. Participants learned to cut and shape glass with precision, treating it not as a conventional material but as a medium for storytelling, experimentation, and self-expression.

Beyond technical skills, the course encouraged reflection on the relationship between humans and materials, particularly the ways in which we interact with our environment. Through hands-on practice, young participants embraced a philosophy grounded in recycling, care, and conscious use of resources.

As a result, the project became a point of intersection between art, creativity, and ecological awareness. Each glass fragment carried a message, turning waste into meaning.

The support of MEKI (Ministry of Education, Culture, and Innovation) made this transformative experience possible. It offered young participants a platform not only to learn and create, but also to leave their mark through a material that might otherwise have been discarded.

This initiative stands as a testament to the power of combining artistic practice with sustainability education, empowering youth to see creative potential where others may see waste.
